4/21/2017 Contest update
The North Koreans celebrated their Dear Leader Kim Il-sung’s birthday with a big parade featuring dancing girls and ginormous missiles. But there was no big parade of investors marching to buy biotech stocks, with the Contest median and the two biotech indexes closing lower for the week.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 12.83% YTD (vs. up 15.47% YTD on 4/13), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 8.53% YTD (vs. up 9.76% YTD on 4/13) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 14.81% YTD (vs. up 15.85% YTD on 4/13). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 9.80% YTD (vs. up 7.84% YTD on 4/13).
No change in the Contest Top Three. ROBO’s portfolio, up 54.13% YTD, still holds the lead, with BIOADD’s portfolio, up 49.33% YTD, in second place and TOMP’s portfolio, up 42.57% YTD, in third place.
At Friday's close, 42 of the 48 Contest portfolios remained in the green, with 33 beating the NBI and 23 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 11.62% and a median YTD gain of 4.24%, with 107 of the 195 picks up for the year.
