Thank you for the article on the caste system in India. I was a lucky kid in that my mother, one of 13 children born into abject poverty and raised by a sister had the sense to self educate herself and pass the information on to me and she was also one of the kindest people who ever lived. Any kid would have been lucky to have her as a mother.

So as I was growing up, she preached all the right things to me. Her hero was Eleanor Roosevelt and even when I was willing to cut the Republicans some slack, she was not. She saw them for who they were on her own.

And she never stop talking about the poor and their needs and how horrible the caste system was in India. She was infuriated that anyone would treat people that way. A proper thing to be infuriated about.

And even though I have a zillion uncles and cousins and aunts, as most of them are racist I have no contact with them at all as she would not tolerate racism for one second. Which in my opinion is the correct attitude.

It is horrible to think that we still have to endure things like the caste system, and any sort of racism or prejudice. Just horrible.
