His base is full of idiots. What idiot have you ever met that changed their mind quickly? Something has to happen to them, personally, before they figure things out. Gay rights and dignity? They have to know a gay person they like before they think it's important (or that gays are even "human")- they can't just realize that all people have worth, as long as they aren't vicious anti-social assholes. Abortion- and a woman's right to choose? Until some woman in their family desperately needs one, they don't get it- and even then they often sneak the woman off to hypocritically have the abortion rather than owning up. Freedom of and FROM religion-they don't get it. His base is incredibly stupid. They're not genetically retarded- but they've chosen to become that way. Just look at the antiscience shit. There are people in his base who would never disregard the latest health science, or if they did, they'd at least study all the data, ditto for engineers who make the machines they drive, or rockets, or whatever, but somehow other kinds of scientists (the ones in areas they don't "like") are super sketchy- biologists warning us about the destruction of bees and other animals, climate scientists- saying anything (anything except- "Oooh,nothing to see here"), EPA scientists...
When you look back in history, you often see whole groups of people who just march willingly toward a cliff- singing as they go- and those are Scrotus' people. Sucks to be them- but it also sucks to be in the country with them. |
