"He has committed to get the politics out of government funded research"

Then he should shut up about science, and he tell the people putting politics into science to shut up. That would be pols like Inhofe, Cruz, Barton, and Smith, and non-pols like Heartland, Watts. Heller, et al.

"you don't have a problem with that, right?"
I long for it. I want pols to say, "we should/should not do something about AGW", not "we should/should not do something about climate science." The role of the politician is to make his policy based on science, not to make science based on his policies.

"could it be you are busy lobbying FOR more politics in science?"

There is too much already. Politicians who flunked 3rd grade science, and became lawyers instead, need to stay the fuck out of labs. Leave that to the scientists. The pol's job is to decide what policy we should adopt in response to scientific findings. For instance, I don't remember a fight about whether Ebola was a virus or a hoax. The fights were about what to do, whom to quarantine based upon the best available prevailing emotion, and how much to spend fighting it.
