Here's the math:
US/Mexico border is approximately 2000 miles long. That's 10,560,000 feet, or 3,520,000 yards. A tower every 1000 yards would require 3,520 towers.
3,520 towers would each require a minimum of 3 eight hour shifts per day, more likely 6 eight hour shifts per day, as security probably would mandate at least two in each tower at any time.
6 eight hour shifts per tower for 3,520 towers is a total of 21,120 eight hour shifts per day, for a total of 168,960 hours every day.
Let's say we pay each worker $30/hr, with another $20/hr in overhead, for a total per hour cost of $50/hr.
That's $8,448,000.00 per day, or $3,083,520,000 per year, just for labor. $3 Billion!
And that's before we build the towers and buy the sniper rifles.
It also assumes 2000 miles of flat, visible terrain, sort of a DMZ.
You want me to work up estimates of clearing, filling and maintaining a 2000 mile long, 200 yard wide corridor to establish an unobstructed view plane for the towers to be placed in?
Does it still look cheap to you? |
