| | | I'm surprised there hasn't been follow up comments about the password post. I read most of the entries from the link you posted and didn't find any that offered the simplest solution. I don't like password managers after fighting with one a couple years ago. I saw a solution posted here (or maybe on another board here on SI). I won't bore anyone with it right here, but I'd gladly share the idea if there's interest. I didn't have time to read it earlier, but opened that article in a tab and just now got a chance to read it. I agree with the gist of it, using a password manager is certainly a great way to go. Only have to remember one password instead of many.
I use 1Password and have been very happy with it. It has browser plugins that work with the major browsers out there to make managing them very easy. It also lets you keep secure notes, credit cards, Social Security numbers, and software licenses in it. You can sync with other devices if you choose, keep your data securely in the cloud (or not), and many other things. I also use it with my iPhone.
However, and this is a big one, I checked their pricing for this post and they appear to have moved to a subscription model. They no longer offer a standalone purchase, it's now $36/year for singe person or $60/year for up to 5 users. I don't like that at all and will refuse to do it when the time comes, so whenever my current version quits working I'll probably find another program to do the job. |
