5/5/2017 Contest update
As was the prevailing view on Wall Street, biotech investors were not impressed by the House GOP vote to replace Obamacare with Trumpcare. Presumably, all expect a checkpoint inhibitor, brand name: Senate, will block the malignant legislation from enactment.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 16.17% YTD (vs. up 18.59% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 11.67% YTD (vs. up 12.33% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 18.48% YTD (vs. up 20.75% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 13.33% YTD (vs. up 12.34% YTD a week ago).
Although they lost ground for the week, ROBO’s portfolio, up 48.57% YTD, and BIOADD’s portfolio, up 46.84% YTD, managed to hold on to first and second place. But we have a newcomer in third place. Powered by a 20% allocation to PIRS, the week’s top gainer, HRS’s portfolio, up 46.71% YTD, now has possession of the bronze ring.
At Friday's close, 42 of the 48 Contest portfolios are still in the green, with 33 beating the NBI and 18 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 12.16% and a median YTD gain of 5.75%, with 109 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy the first weekend in May biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
