The NeverTrump Rs were calling Trump out from the get-go. I have links back to early January, 2016, where he was characterized as a "poo-throwing simian alpha male" with no "semblance of fidelity to American constitutional principles."

The NeverTrumpers are cosmopolitan, intellectual people. You don't have to agree with their politics to appreciate the discomfort he must have caused them, their way with words in expressing that, and what it must have cost them to isolate themselves from the tribe.
