Sorry. My only excuse is that I am from New Jersey. Born and raised. Here in NJ we have unsuccessfully applied repeatedly to be exempt from inclusion in the broad definition of "American Tourist", for example, and have been denied because the country cannot seem to do without Nicholson, Pesci, Devito, Travolta, Piscopo, and all the other rude SOBs that America cannot seem to do without. Not to say that America has done badly with other people in film, but Nicholson, Pesci, Devito, ....hell, even Abbott and Costello....exemplify the attitude that personifies NJ. As far as Streep and Jackie O are concerned they were from the rarified 'money' area and people like me disavow them.
Because I'm from the neighborhood I have a line from '5 Easy Pieces' in mind. Because that's not the kind of person I am, I will say this.
You are absolutely correct in pointing that out. However, I regret to say that because of my low-class upbringing (a product of Europeans), I am certain that I shall make that mistake again. For this I apologize.
But you are speaking with someone who had a foreign accent as late as High School.... and I appreciate the country I'm in. However, when I'm with Europeans they often think me to be Irish.
I always correct them. |
