Jacksonville police: Woman shoots intruder who followed her home, forced his way in

A woman thwarted an apparent home-invasion robbery Wednesday morning by shooting her would-be assailant in the area of the 1600 block of North Myrtle Street, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect trailed the woman to her home in the Durkeeville neighborhood just before 10 a.m., then forced his way inside, according to police. When he tried to rob her, she grabbed a gun and shot him once in the torso, police said.

The wounded man fled the scene, then called 911 and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. A few minutes later another call to police reported an attempted home-invasion robbery nearby. The caller told dispatchers she had shot a suspect, police said.

Investigators discovered the shooting victim was connected to the home invasion and he was taken into custody at the hospital, police said.
