Once the move is offered the opponent must use the rule of "En Passant" on the next move or forgo it with respect to that pawn.

The rule evolved, as I recall, because in early chess there was no such thing as moving a pawn 2 spaces on it's first foray. Allowing the pawn to move 2 squares once an opponent had 'pinned' it seemed unfair...so the opponent was allowed the option of taking the pawn, "En Passant".

I'd be happy to send you my e-mail, I keep it private these days for reasons you would understand but prefer not to discuss in public.
