This past week I tried to install Bitdefender Free and Avast Free separately on XP32-Pro and failed. Bitdefender however has a special XP version available for free, but only if you you have subscribed. In other words, if you have the paid version of Bitdefender on a newer computer, they will give you the XP-Bitdefender for free.

I agree with you older unsupported systems have higher risk, but was trying to beef up XP security with 3rd party software as an exercise. Btw, my XP is dual-booted with Win7 and really only use XP to play with.

What I'm leading up to here is that support for Windows 7 will end in January 2020, which is not that far off. I did create the free Win10 licenses for my Win7 computers. However, my main Win7 installation has it's settings and applications highly tuned for my needs and is very comfortable to work with. I even have a spare motherboard for that computer should it ever be needed.

Do you think 3rd party security will be able to provide adequate protection for Win7 after Microsoft support ends?

Josh
