Speaking of peripherally related topics... let me offer up one related to (former FBI Director) James Comey. As I sort of allude to from time to time, the town where I've lived for nearing a quarter century is home to many well-known people, one of whom was Comey before his FBI stint. Recall he was formerly working for Bridgewater Associates here in town (the world's biggest hedge fund that is somewhat fictionalized in the Showtime show "Billions"; I say "somewhat" because while the show identifies my town by name, it's technically about SAC Capital in Greenwich).
When Comey was fired, I wondered if his house, which I knew had been on the market for some time, had actually finally been sold. My thinking was Comey might decide to head back here to get out of the limelight (and wear sweats/no makeup and blend in, though that's tough at 6'8"), hence my curiosity. As it turns out, the house was not in his name, hence you couldn't find it via a Google or property search absent the address. Even the Google Maps image of his house had been blurred out. Of course, I knew his exact address so I simply looked it up in town records. It had been sold-- for a big loss. I casually mentioned that to a friend who has a well-read town blog, he published it, it got immediate headlines here in CT, and it was just published in the UK Daily Mail.
