Roy,
Thanks for the information. It will be interesting to watch G2's progress over the next couple of years. I hope you guys succeed. Just don't take too much business away from Ancor. <g>
How quickly do you think Fibre Channel will get to the point that products can be ordered from a distributor, and be installed by network guys like me, without having to get involved with the manufacturer? This is actually a self-serving question. I am seriously considering a RAID array for my company, and I am debating whether to go ahead now with a SCSI solution, or to wait a little while and spring for Fibre Channel. I particularly like the simplified cabling and the extended distance offered by FC. In my case, it is more a matter of having massive amounts of storage on line, rather than a performance issue, so I would probably go with a simple loop or hub solution, rather than a switch. (Unless UPS delivers that free GigWorks MKII that I've been hinting about for a while now. <g>)
It seems to me that the proliferation of companies involved with Fibre Channel, both on the manufacturing and customer side, will mainstream the technology fairly quickly. As prices drop, more and more of us will seriously consider Fibre Channel.
I'll be watching for your updated web site.
