By trying to stop the investigation that would prove that "the charge that does not exist". It's a dumb plan, and arouses suspicion. People notice when you:
1) fire the ass't AG who warned Flynn was compromised
2) fire the US attorney in NY who is investigating your friends
3) ask the FBI to stop an investigation several times, then
4) fire the FBI chief right after he testifies that there is a serious investigation in the works "because of the Russian thing", and then
5) brag about stopping the invesigations to the Russian spies you bring into the oval office, just before you give them highly classified material, an event recorded by Russia state media, but not American media
6) ask the DNI and the head of the CIA to lay the Russian investigation to rest.
