Hi Kathy,
For general PC information I read PC magazine and Windows Magazine.
I used to read Datamation and Network Computing. I found Network Computing to be focused on LAN hardware and software and it was taking up too much time for too little information relevant to what I do. Datamation straddled too many areas and again, too much time for too little return.
Databased Advisor used to be pretty good, but now that they have a Notes Advisor, a Access/Visual Basic Advisor, a Foxpro Advisor, a Java and Active X Advisor, etc, I find them to be too general.
DBMS is great for database engines. Martin Rennhackkamp, who authors the Server Side column, has reviewed SQLBase frequently, usually when comparing features of major RDMBS's. SQLBase usually gets positive coverage by Martin. Another regular DBMS columnist, Joe Celko, has written articles for Centuro Pro. He wrote one of my favourite books on SQL, "SQL for Smarties". Getting Joe to write some positive words about SQLBase would be a big boost for the engine.
I haven't found a good publication on front end tools. This the gap that Databased Advisor used to fill for me. Someone ( either here or on the Centura forums ) mentioned a magazine entitled "Windows Programmers journal" or something like that (not MSJ). I'll see if I can find that reference. |
