Not just me. Granted, in your ignorance, this might seem important. But... Sea ice is not a glacier. It is pretty irrelevant in Antarctica because it mostly melts away in the local summer. Still... Arctic sea ice extent for April 2017 tied with April 2016 for the lowest in the satellite record for the month. Warm weather conditions and lower-than-average sea ice extent prevailed over the Pacific side of the Arctic, while relatively cool conditions were the rule in northern Europe and eastern North America. In the Southern Hemisphere, Antarctic sea ice extent remained lower than average. nsidc.org 2014 was an outlier. You need to Google the Larsen ice shelves. In Antarctica, ice shelves are much more important than sea ice because they slow the flow of glaciers into the ocean. Larsen A collapsed in the 1990s. Larsen B collapsed about 10 years ago. Larsen C is in the process of collapsing. This could lead to a high rate of iceberg formation as the ice sheets accelerate and dump ice into the oceans, probably causing an acceleration of sea level rise.
