<<The answer currently is? Nobody will.>>

If that's not the quintessential Gold Bug answer, I don't know what is? -g-

First of all, things are not hopeless. Secondly, I am going to try to establish some common ground, in terms of what people want from their elected representatives.

1. People want to keep the fruits of their labor and not give a handout to Government. I think we can all agree that Government takes much more from the average American's income than they should.

Conservatives object and blame people who they perceive as loafers on Government assistant programs and Liberals object to their tax dollars being spent on wars. Immigrants are the new loafers and scapegoats in conservative circles today whereas, in fact, I think the opposite is the case: third generation Americans think they are privileged and superior to immigrants. Hile American!!!!!

I think the major culprit when it comes to taxes is Social Security. I think people should be given an option as to whether they want to participate in Social Security and government pensions. I wrote a letter to Mayor Ed Koch in the early 80s when I was a Math teacher for the NYC Board of Ed. if I could opt out of the NYC pension system and he wrote me back a very nice long letter commending me for my attitude, but said the system can't work with some people in pensions and others not. It would get too complicated to manage. Moreover, he said my Union voted for Pensions so I have no choice in the matter. So much for the Tryanny of Unions.

2. People do want single payer universal healthcare or some sort of cheap universal healthcare sponsored by Government. There have been a number of polls to that effect. It is the drug companies, big pharma and healthcare companies who object. And they have gotten their way. The conservative response is that it is not financially feasible and the Democratic response is that there is too much political resistance from the companies who stand to suffer the most.

I agree that the RNC and DNC do not address the concerns of the middle class. However, the RNC has provided a better outlet for those to blame for their problems than the DNC.

There has been no shift to the Left since 1980. Bill Clinton and Obama were not Liberals or Left wing in any shape or form. They may have been more tolerable than Reagan or Trump, but they were far from progressive.
