agreed. this also means it could fall just as easy if it goes out of favor. speculation implies volatility.

when the US dollar became the reserve currency, were other fiats destroyed or diminished? sure, people will probably sell the dollar out of fear if they think it will lose reserve status, but it will be temporary. its strength will quickly return. i think that at a fundamental level, loss of reserve status is an irrational fear.

i quite agree. i believe the strength of the economy (all else being roughly equal) is what determines the strength of the dollar. the strength of an economy is naturally reflected in the value of its labor.
