It's been sounding to me that you think floppy compatibility is
more important because more floppy drives are sold than Zip drives.
I would bet that if every computer sold was configured to customer's
desires, then a lot more boxes with Zip drives would be going out
the door. Joe/Jane Six-Pack might opt to buy a box with a floppy
rather than Zip because they recognize the brand, but if the sales
guy says "choose a $19 floppy that won't hold very much useful stuff (given today's applications) or a $60 Zip that's big enough to store most anything and everyone's getting them" then I bet they'd take the Zip.

I think your argument that floppy drives outsell Zip drives is weak.
Sure, more is more, but customers are seeking out the Zip and being given the floppy.
