[ What kind of person thinks take your son to work applies to home invasion? This is sad, but really this boy might be better without this guy in his life. ]

SAN ANTONIO — An alleged home invader who had his young son with him was shot and killed Friday at a Northeast Side home during a break-in attempt, according to police.

Officers responded to the shooting around 1:40 p.m. in the 6300 block of Aspen Farm, where they found the suspect suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The suspect's son, who is around 7-years-old, was detained by police at the scene.

"We're gonna get help for him," said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.McManus said the suspect, a man in his 30s, was shot as he attempted to break-in through the front window of the home. The window led into a bedroom where the homeowner was sleeping.

The break-in attempt startled the homeowner, a woman in her 30s, and she grabbed her firearm and shot at the suspect twice, striking him at least once, police said.

Paramedics transported the suspect to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The homeowner is currently not facing any charges, though the incident is still under investigation.
