I think I understand and appreciate your point. However,...

Given the "however," I'm not so sure. My point was not about whether or not to do anything wrt global warming. It was about pulling out of a worldwide agreement and doing so with great fanfare.

Trump had already scuttled US plans, non-binding commitments, to do anything about global warming under the agreement so your concerns about the quality of the science and the urgency of global warming were already dealt with. He had effectively gotten us out from under whatever burden following through on those plans was expected to effect. Problem solved. For purposes of the US, our signing of the agreement was effectively moot. He could have left it at that. We still had a seat at the table even though we had rejected a leadership position.

But, oh no, he chose to make a spectacle of renouncing the agreement. At that point exiting the agreement was effectively symbolic, thus unnecessary for the stated purpose. I forced myself to watch that whole speech. It was an extension of his campaign rallies. It was a big SCREW YOU!!!" to the world, broader than climate change, an assertion that the US is asserting itself and going it alone. It was an assertion of isolationism. He not only renounced Obama and the climate change movement but the our role in the world.

Pence introduced Trump as the leader of the free world. If that was still true pre-speech, it wasn't true post speech. And that's a good thing?
