You seem to be under the impression there is something to do about global warming other than study it or pay reparations.

Good grief! What gave you that idea, particularly given that I stated up front that my issue was not about global warming?

My point was not about whether or not to do anything wrt global warming. It was about pulling out of a worldwide agreement and doing so with great fanfare.
How could that be misconstrued?

And reparations? Where in the world did that come from? I've never remotely suggested anything along those lines.

The most important contribution the United States can make to the cause of global warming today is to try to redirect research so that it becomes objective.

I'm on record here wrt global warming. My position is exactly the same whether global warming is a big deal or whether it's a figment because, if the former, we've already missed the boat--too little to late. Rebooting the study of it would be just more fiddling while Rome burns.

I spent some time on that post trying to be clear. I woke up this morning sad in the recognition that I had seen the zenith of US hegemony in the world, now in the rear view mirror. Trump with his tribalist, zero-sum mentality and supreme ignorance, has not just let that go but kicked it in the face and out the door. I wonder by whom and when it was first recognized that the Roman Empire was a goner. That's a sinking feeling. We had reached the tipping point and yesterday kicked off the downhill slide, with gusto. For no good reason. It was great while it lasted.
