I find that the internet is good for finding more information about something you already know a little about. For example, if you want to find out about OLAP products, you can do a search to find out what products are OLAP. However, if there is a product, or even a class of products, you generally find out about them by reading a magazine. A good example of this is if you have a client that wants to do executive level reporting but didn't know OLAP existed, the internet isn't much good.

I guess that the computing industry is becoming so fragmented, with so many niches, that it's hard to find a magazine that tells you that sort of information with out also telling you lots of other information that you don't care about. Maybe this is why I'm still happy with DBMS, which consentrates on RDMBS's, but not happy with Databased Advisor, which consentrates on "front-end" tools. That segment of the market has become so varied that most of the products reviewed are completely irrelevant to what I want to know.

Maybe I'll ask this question at our next user group meeting. It would be useful information both to me personally and to Centura.

BTW, have a look at metex.com and go to the resources section for a listing of sources of info that is useful to Centura programmers. That information is a year old (already!) but should still be useful.
