6/2/2017 Contest update
Why did Trump drop out of the Paris Climate Club? A close reading of Marx may provide the answer. As Marx put it: “I don't want to belong to any club that will accept people like me as a member.”
Meanwhile, by week’s end the climate turned copacetic for biotech investors. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 13.77% YTD (vs. up 11.45% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 11.69% YTD (vs. up 8.81% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 20.21% YTD (vs. up 16.07% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 17.14% YTD (vs. up 15.36% YTD a week ago).
We have a new leader! HRS’s portfolio, up 66.13% YTD, grabbed first place as PIRS and TGTX continued their run. TOMP’s portfolio, up 65.50% YTD, slipped to second place and ROBO’s portfolio, up 54.09% YTD, held on to third place.
At Friday's close, 44 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 28 beating the NBI and 18 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 12.94% and a median YTD gain of 6.52%, with 103 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: Switched from tracking PHMMF to PHM.MC as there is greater Euro volume and Yahoo now downloads the Euro symbol.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a low energy weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
