Of course, they can afford to support them and many others, but that isn't the point.

Microsoft biggest problem for decades is "Legacy" support. Which I feel is the main reason they gave away Windows 10.

Where Apple has continually changed directions and turned off support for hardware items after only a few years, Microsoft has kept support for outdated hardware, which helped them keep users.

It is very expensive and time consuming for Microsoft to support so many outdated products. For example, they have teams still writing drivers for dot matrix printers.
