Samsung Electronics' '98 export goal is US$13 billion

JAN. 7, 1998 - Samsung Electronics expects in 1998 to export about US$13 billion worth of
products, targeting a 17% increase from the previous year, according to company officials.

The company also intends to domestically manufacture core electronic parts and components to
replace imports.

Its business plan calls for expanding production of non-memory chips, development of lead frame
and other semiconductor materials, and domestic manufacturing of digital video disk and CDMA
chipsets.
