John, That Comp USA deal was really a twofer, since you have to add the chips in pairs (i.e. 32MB total), and the deal was only good for one module per customer/address, although a few of us got friends to go down and "buy" the other chip. I can tell you from personal experiance, the store clerks really got quite uppity after they explained the pairing requirement and you still insisted on buying one chip. -g-
So, this was less of a loss leader/price cut, than it appears on the surface and I doubt you can draw too many inferences from this on general memory supply/demand. Especially, given the short fuse on the sale - I think it was two or three days. What is going on with Asean capacity in light of the "troubles" is the far tougher, and more important, question to figure out.
