OK, new rule. Stop posting if you have nothing to say. Yes, it's a sliding scale. Think of it as maintaining a reasonable signal-to-noise ratio. Starting now. I've turned off my ignores so posts I haven't been seeing will come through.

And especially the equation:

(all user's posts)/(user's posts with intelligent speculation or analysis)

must not generate NaN exceptions (NaN = Not a Number). Little computer programmer joke. Some programming languages have this special value for dividing by zero which is mathematically undefined. Others generate "divide by zero" errors.

Yes, the ignore button works, but the problem with the ignore button is twofold:

1> not all members have access, you have to be at a certain (paying I believe) level in SI to have that access.

2> now I'm having to deal with back-and-forth about posts. It rather defeats the purpose of the ignore button to have to wade through posts talking about posts I've ignored.

And for those who do have access to the ignore button, there's a certain satisfaction in just ignoring someone and making no mention of them or the fact that you've ignored them. For those that don't have access, please just make no mention of posts that annoy you (except, of course, violations of the ToU and in general the SI Admins are the place to do that, they're pretty good about taking action).

According to Spider Robinson "Anyone you ignore utterly will eventually go away".

And no, I'm not going to call out posters or posts publicly, use your judgement. Adults should be able to figure this out.
