Backblaze HDD Reliability Stats ... << Those stats are for server drives and don't apply to my external hard drives, my largest is a 2.5 inch Toshiba 2TB. >> Those Backblaze stats are for bare consumer grade (not server or enterprise grade) drives spinning 24/7 in Backblaze custom designed storage pods (originally designed by Backblaze for 3.5" Hitachi consumer grade Deskstar drives) before Hitachi's divestiture of all their HDD manufacturing assets assets to Western Digital completed when they started farming drives because nobody else could supply their needs in the needed quantity particularly after the Thailand floods in nid 2011. They have stuck with consumer grade drives and purchase now primarily from Seagate. Neither Toshiba or WDC (either division)have been able to meet their needs in the quantities they need and at the price they are willingh to pay. - Eric L . -
