He fits the profile of someone who is insane. Bernie supporter/fanatic. From Illinois, living in a van prior to shooting. None of mass shooters are sane, but only a single mass shooter was ever acquitted by reason of insanity (he apparently was a diagnosed schizophrenic randomly shooting people he thought were demons) Mass murder usually has significant elements of pre-mediation and planning, enough to rule out insanity defense, which requires "didn't know the nature or quality of their actions or that actions were wrong" standard. It does not mean mass shooters are not insane, and I believe they are, they just usually know what they are doing... This has more to do with high standard of legal insanity after Reagan assassination attempt than anything else. Was the Unabomber sane? I highly doubt it. Granted, he was a serial killer, not a mass murderer After Reagan the only people who get acquitted by insanity are those who harm family members
