History has shown that when a very large segment of the population is disenchanted with the policies of government and adversely affected by them, that the disenchanted members will bond together and look to overthrow the government. Success rates have been very high, including the American Revolution, which was primarily based on extremely high taxes and not being able to achieve a workable living.
With that being said, it is clear that the shooter was most likely acting on his own behalf without sponsorship or the support of a larger group.
As someone who fought in the Israeli Army and who was a proud member of SDS during the Vietnam era, the actions of the shooter sent a very large message since it was Intentionally directed to the Republican Party.
Now I do think the shooter went about this in the wrong way primarily because you cannot beat a tremendous military power by oneself or with a few people. Guerilla networks in El Salvador and Nicaragua have done it, but it has taken years of fighting and their countries had to be built up again from scratch.
There is a way to go about these things and what the shooter did was wrong by most likely going alone. On the other hand, no one is really sure at this point if he did do this alone without support.
Lots of revolutionaries throughout the world have their eyes wide open here wondering if this is the start of something new.
