While I agree with this, that doesn't mean we are better off without rural health facilities. More commonly, NPs and APNs are staffing rural health clinics, and play roles usually occupied by physicians in rural hospitals.

In Eastern Arkansas and the Delta areas, it may be the only care available for a considerable distance. So, they save lives. If an ambulance driver has a seriously injured patient he's taking from an accident on I40, it may well be life-or-death whether the patient gets immediate care in West Memphis rather than driving across the bridge to far better facilities in Memphis.
