Just before Xmas, I was out in TRAIL BC, at Cominco Ltd. headquarters. I was in doing some work at the Research Center. After a lengthy discussion on Au and base metals, one of the Chemists indicated that selenium is not a problem. Selenium is found in most deposits. it is a very common element assosciated with many base metal deposits and would not be a problem to remove.
It makes you wonder why Westmin was so down on the selenium problem, when a chemist from Cominco Research did not seem to think it would be a problem at all.
From what I understand, there is a market for selenium, one of its main uses is an additive in hair soaps. Would not selling the selenium pay for the cost of removing it from the base metal deposits.
