L.A. recently spent well over $1 billion on a 16 mile 2-3 car light rail from Downtown L.A. to Santa Monica in the hopes of getting people out of their cars and onto the train. They even built parking structures next to the stations.

For reasons one can only guess at, they've now decided to charge $3.00 a day for parking to help pay for the system. It only took about a week to decide that was such a good idea, that they extended it to the entire rail system throughout the city.

The TV news story today was about how ridership has fallen off. Gosh, it was working so well with bunches of people using the rail system and getting out of their cars and now all of a sudden the ridership has fallen off. The city will probably commission a study to figure out why people aren't using the rails anymore.
