QUALCOMM Statement Regarding Richard Bliss

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- QUALCOMM (Nasdaq: QCOM - news) was informed today by the U.S. Department of State that Russian authorities have formally indicated to the U.S. government that there is no request at this time for Richard Bliss' return to Russia. The U.S. Department of State notified QUALCOMM of this development as QUALCOMM was preparing to process Richard's Visa for his return trip.

''QUALCOMM will continue to exercise all available means to secure Richard's complete exoneration,'' said QUALCOMM Chairman and CEO Dr. Irwin Jacobs. ''As we have maintained since the onset of this matter, Richard is innocent of these charges. He was simply fulfilling QUALCOMM's contractual agreements to install and test an innovative wireless telecommunications system for our customer in Rostov.''

''We thank the U.S. government and public officials for their tireless efforts in working with the Russian government and authorities on Richard's behalf,'' Jacobs continued. ''QUALCOMM extends its appreciation to Secretary of State Madeline Albright and other senior officials of the U.S. State Department, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jim Collins and the entire U.S. Embassy staff, members of the Senate including Senators Richard Bryan, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, and many members of Congress including San Diego's entire congressional delegation.''

QUALCOMM will continue to work with the U.S. government officials and Russian authorities for a complete dismissal of charges of espionage against Mr. Bliss.
