RIDDLE ME THIS!

A shiny green stone, hailed savior to all,
The gold, it did shine for eight fortnights.
The praises were sung, and the bells they were rung,
Mister May, he did choke on those big bites.

So out there he went,
to pick up some gems,
but the choking he spit out for good.
And now he holds many, but all have clear skin,
It makes sense, if you just understood.
