Hi GZ, the atmosphere really thins out as we get way up there in the Mountains..... both Vail and Aspen are perfected situated so that they top out right below 10,000 or so feet.

And Aspen is at 8,500 feet where the town is located..... I have taken a plane out of Aspen and the airport is not a big one.... I guess the runways are not super long... due to geography, Also the planes are not big.

I remember that the Airline, the maintenance staff and even the flight crew were much more careful about how much weight was on the plane..... the high altitude impacts take off ability.....as well as the other factors specific to Aspen.
