A century ago, Woodrow Wilson and the "Progressives" sought nothing short of a wholesale philosophical repudiation of the Declaration. The goal was nothing less than to unmoor the federal government from its modest founding precepts and transmogrify it into a Leviathan. This was to be accomplished, in their view, by perverting negative natural rights securing into positive rights affirmative bestowing. A legacy carried on by FDR, LBJ, and Obama, it remains the single greatest concerted internal attempt to distort the meaning of America.
