if you want to further divide us go ahead. i'm already aware of all the nuances. i'm also aware of rand's hate of altruism. i've argued on philosophy boards about it over 15 years ago. if you checked my past posts here on SI about it, you'd soon know my position.

but i'm not going to tell you my position, because no matter what it is, it would further divide us at a time when i think we're all in peril. on this political forum altruism is minutia. in my opinion, we should concentrate on making government smaller. anything other than that is counter productive. we shouldn't argue about abortion either because the fight further weakens us at election time. smaller government and the defense of our rights is what we should be talking about now. defeating the 'crats is what we should be talking about now. that and how we can defend our freedom in our own country. at this time, i'm not interested in splitting hairs.
