Interesting article.

I tell folks that I help individually or that ask for advice at parties that one of the keys to growing wealth is to not get sucked into fad investments near their top just before they collapse. Odds are more in your favor to take the turtle wins the race approach.

While Bitcoin seems to offer some real value compare to Beanie Babbies, the main reasons many buy both are "they will continue to go up and I'll feel terrible if I miss out." Perfect recipe for someone whose accumulated a lot to unload. If they "really" had that high potential for appreciation, why tell everyone who will compete with you to buy more as they go up?

Anyway, I'm not in the top 99.9999% in math understanding so I'll stay away as those smarter than me who created the currencies and might know something they're not telling me. Intuitively, it seems that you can turn a finite number of "number codes" into an infinite number by scrambling them with another private Key code so it just doesn't seem like a sure thing to me... but I've said I've not looked at the math as I'm sure it is well above my IQ level to understand.

I am interested in how people will use these for transactions and if that will be a form of commerce that can avoid taxation much as how Air BnB grew so quickly. If it is possible to conduct large scale commerce and avoid taxation and discovery of transactions by taxing authorities, then my guess it governments will make it illegal to use and hire smart minds to track down those who use it.
