Over the decades I often would be the first to buy a new technology only to end up seeing no one followed.
or seeing an inferior technology be mass marketed and take over the market. a.k.a. "Beta vs VHS"
Whether it was hardware which seemed revolutionary at the time ( yes I believed all of the hype) but in the end bombed and I was stuck with a dead-end product
With software like Word Perfect for Dos, Word, WordStar, Lotus Symphony, dBase, Paradox, Lotus 123 or Ashton Tate Framework it goes on and on.
What I learned the hard way is go with the flow, stick with the masses, you will get the best deals most options or working accessories and best service support and hopefully, longer service life.
It's not exactly revolutionary reasoning, but it is sound advice, learned the hard and expensive way.
