Fubho,
I recall after Katrina they said we would need a new higher category for hurricanes and they would be more frequent.
I remember Bill Nye, the so-called "science guy," using Katrina to pat himself on the back regarding catastrophic hurricanes becoming more frequent. From 2006:

news.cornell.edu
Climate change is not rocket science, he said. Last April -- four months before Hurricane Katrina -- he warned of the potential for a catastrophic 2005 hurricane season on TV news programs. "Am I a genius? No. I was just paying attention. And a lot of people aren't," he said.
Funny how he remains silent on the lack of catastrophic hurricane seasons since then. But then again, Bill Nye's "science" changes with the political winds.
