Howdy Delbert.
1) The human body doesn't produce any silicone. Silicone is a trade name for polydimethylsiloxane, an entirely synthetic confection beloved by waterproofers and plastic surgeons. Our bodies do metabolize tiny amounts of silicon as its fully-oxidized mineral form: silicate.
It's become a bad habit of many writers, including those who write for the weekly science section of the paper, to confuse the mineral silicon with the silicon-bearing polymer silicone. As CA residents (and those among us who watch porn vid) all know - Silicone Valley is a suburb of LA!
2)Vicks Inhalers. Ah the memory. Each Inhaler contained, along with a gum-tree's worth of assorted aromatics, a stout dose of pure sweet methamphetamine. Don't ask me how I know this. The extraction procedure was laughably easy, and ten inhalers' worth got you a few days' worth of unhinged speed freakin', pedal to the floor. So - their "abuse potential" got them yanked in the late Seventies. No suitable successor has emerged... and some folks are still looking. Quite energetically, I'm told. :-)

PS I learned on NPR this morning that those little Net smilies etc. are called "emoticons". Lovely, no?
