Yes there is really no way to move over your programs. There are some utilities/systems that propose to do this, I've tried one, forget which, but it was really a total waste of time. I did this exactly one year ago and my conclusion was it was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. It took about a day and 1/2 to completely reinstall everything I wanted. The good news is that I had original discs or equivalent for all the major programs I had and they all reinstalled perfectly well under Windows 10. As many of them were older ,we then had to run through all the updates for the programs. I took this also as an opportunity to dump a lot of unused programs or underutilized programs that I felt I could do without. Of course you need to do this with a high-speed Internet connection otherwise I guess it would be nearly impossible under dial-up conditions.
