Hello again, Tim.. Good points.. I think a lower linewidth and lower laser noise go hand in hand. The effective filter bandwidth built into the laser is reduced so both linewidth and noise benefit from this... And wouldn't you then agree, that anything which reduces the noise component is going to comparatively increase the effective transmission distance for any given power level?.. Thanks for your continued thoughts on the subject! Finding any interesting new investments? My recent ones are QWST (increase previous investment), CTEC (getting in at 10 1/8, and still buying), LTXX, because of their "Fusion" "System-on-Chip Test Equipment" and finally starting up.. and AFFX, on which I just got a "trigger", up 3 today, wishing I had bought more.. P.S. for Craig... would have said hello, but you appeared to have plenty of company! :-) Duane
