Melissa Melendez — California State Assemblymember for District 67

July 18 at 2:04pm ·

Shamefully last night, the Legislature passed the extension of the California Democratic Party's Cap-and-Trade program.

Under this program, the Legislative Analyst's Office estimates gas prices could increase by 63 cents. Add that to the recent 12 cent gas tax (SB1) the Democrats just passed and Californians are looking at a 75 cent increase in their gas prices.

California is unaffordable. Too many Californians are living with the anxiety they will not be able to afford next month’s utility bill or have enough money to fill their gas tank. Cap and Trade isn't the answer. We can protect our environment in meaningful ways that do not put the American Dream out of reach for millions of Californians.

California deserves better.
