CLEVELAND (AP) _ Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (CLF) on Thursday reported second-quarter profit of $31.8 million.

On a per-share basis, the Cleveland-based company said it had net income of 11 cents. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, came to 26 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 18 cents per share.

The mining company posted revenue of $569.3 million in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $482.7 million.
