Dear Jane,
This conversation really interest me. Jesus said " If you love me keep my commandments, and Mat.7:21 Not everyone who say to me Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. There are many others like these that say we are to do the will of God. I am not discounting grace one bit but I think alot have gone to far with it. To me what John the Baptist said is our goal when he said " Behold the Lamb of God that TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD. We have to take our sins to Him, obey Him and trust that He will take the sin out of our spirit forever. That is such a great gift. But if we go on sinning without grieving over it and taking it to Him in faith we will not please Him. We will still have grace and salvation but good grief there is more to this than just getting eternal life this is a real and personal loving relationship with someone greater than our imaginations can take us. That is the real prize is knowing Him and knowing that he knows you. So it is right that a person fully submissive to Him will start naturally living like they are under the law with joy. Remember He is the Word of God, the Torah He fulfilled it in every way so how can anyone even hint that the law is dead or bad. Was there anything in His life that was bad? The problem with the law was peoples inability to understand it and obey it like Jesus did, but know that we have the Holy Spirit we should conform and be molded into the law. I don't remember were I saw it but I saw a post recently that said the Churchs read to much of the Gospels and the people know more than the Jews about the law and they should be reading the writtings of Paul for that is the New Testament. Well I am sorry but the Gospels are Jesus very own words and His teaching. So I guess you see I am very interested in the application of the law in the New Covenant. I am sure I will get blasted for anytime I say anything good about the law I get the Romans, Galatians and many other verses told to me and I agree but they act like I don't. Sometimes I think it is just a reaction to conviction. What I am telling them is that you can not do it you can not please God without faith and having our sin taken away by our Lord.
