Vegas Consumer Electronics Show
Industry Leaders Join Intel in Bringing PC Functionality
to the Vehicle
CHANDLER, Ariz., Jan. 6, 1998 -- With
the arrival of Intel Corporation's in-car
computer technology, traveling to this
year's Consumer Electronics Show
(CES) in Las Vegas has become a new
experience. Today, Intel took its Ford
Expedition, loaded with a Pentiumr
processor with MMXT technology-based
platform, on the road to Las Vegas for
CES.
"Whether it's satellite-based navigation,
Internet access, cellular phone calls,
playing games or watching DVD movies,
car drivers and their passengers will be
able to enjoy the features we are showcasing at CES today -- a CCPC Ford Expedition that was driven from Intel's Chandler, Ariz., facilities to the show," said Ganesh Moorthy, general manager of Intel's Appliance and Computing Division.
The new Ford Expedition, loaded with Intel Connected Car PC Technology, is the company's latest effort in making PCs in cars a reality. Since the announcement of its plans to bring PCs to cars in 1996, Intel has demonstrated Connected Car PC Technology at various venues. At the world's largest automotive show, IAA Frankfurt, Citroen unveiled a new model, the Xsara, with Intel Connected Car PC Technology.
And just last week, Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories (BHMA) debuted a newly customized Lincoln Navigator with Intel Connected Car PC Technology at the 1998 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show.
